Come and ask better questions.

We host postdoctoral researchers, doctoral students and master’s/bachelor’s researchers from across the world. Curiosity, rigour, and a willingness to combine bench work with quantitative thinking go a long way here.

Route 01
master’s, bachelor’s, interns

Student researchers

We regularly host master’s thesis projects and bachelor’s research modules, primarily through the Heidelberg MSc Molecular Biosciences / MSc Molecular Biotechnology programmes. International student visitors and lab rotations (e.g. via Erasmus+) are welcome subject to capacity.

How: e-mail Jan or one of the senior scientists with a short CV, the timeframe you are looking for, and the kind of project you would like to do.
Route 02
doctoral

PhD students

Doctoral training in the lab usually goes through one of Heidelberg’s structured programmes — primarily HBIGS (Heidelberg Biosciences International Graduate School) — competitive selection process.

How: apply through HBIGS and indicate the lab as one of your preferences, or e-mail Jan with a CV, a one-paragraph motivation, and the names of two referees.
Route 03
postdoctoral

Postdoctoral researchers

We welcome inquiries from researchers interested in plant stem cell control, chromatin biology, hormonal signalling integration, quantitative live imaging, or computational modelling of meristem dynamics. We support fellowship applications (EMBO, HFSP, Marie Skłodowska-Curie, AvH, DFG Walter Benjamin) and can advise on local opportunities.

How: e-mail Jan a brief statement of research interests, a CV, and contact details for two references. Mention any fellowship you are eligible for.
What we offer
